Welcome to New Hope United Methodist Church!

Our New Pastor - as of July 1, 2010 - Rev. Katie Bishop

Hello, New Hope Family! My name is Katie Bishop and I am blessed to be appointed as pastor to New Hope as of July 1st.  I grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, and began working in the church as a teenager. I served as a Children’s Minister for six years at a large church in Arlington, Virginia through college at Marymount University and Seminary at Wesley. I was appointed four years ago to the Wolfsville Charge and served to help these two churches start contemporary worship, reach out to the changing community, and go single station. Two years ago, I stayed with Garfield as they split from the charge. During my time there, we have seen great growth in our discipleship and outreach ministries, worship attendance, and young people’s programs.
In ministry, I have a real passion for the revitalization of the local church. Using my gifts of preaching, teaching and ministry to children and young people, I believe the local church is the main avenue God uses to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
My husband Chris and I met on our first day of seminary at Wesley. Chris is also a pastor, serving as one of the pastors on staff at Middletown United Methodist in Middletown, Maryland.  Chris and I have a two and a half year old daughter, Eden. Full of life, Eden loves to play in the sprinkler, read stories, and do art projects. Her best friend is our faithful German-shepherd, Kronk. One of my favorite scripture verses is Jeremiah 29:11. It reads, “’For I know the plans I have for you’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” I am so blessed that the New Hope is part of the hope and future that God has planned for me and I am excited to see how I am a part of the hope and future God has planned for you! May you and your families be blessed! Grace and Peace, Pastor Katie Bishop
